Mary Gallagher
Co-owner of Freedom Farm with husband, Jerry, Mary has been immersed in horses since the age of six. She is passionate about jumping and has many accomplishments in the show arena, and continues to test her skill of communication there today. For more than a decade Mary has been focusing on the extraordinary bond that can be reached through natural horsemanship. Her love for this connection between horse and human was first sparked by Jimmy Williams, while she was riding and instructing for him. Later she found that Pat Parelli's style was similar to what Jimmy taught and began a journey into Parelli Natural Horsemanship. The study of Natural Horsemanship has spanned 12 years for Mary and she reached 2 stars status as an instructor for Parelli before returning to the performance field.
Today Mary is combining her knowledge of Traditional and Natural horsemanship in her teaching and sharing with her students and her horses a new dimension of balance and communication. She and her students carry that knowledge forward into all areas of equine sport and competition.
Mary is a strong advocate of creating a natural lifestyle for the horse, in which he is free to express his true nature. Mary's horses live in a herd environment and they are not restricted by shoes or blankets. Watching and learning about herd dynamic helps her students develop their own horsemanship and communication skills. Mary trims her own horses with the guidance of Jerry, and practices natural healing methods using photonic therapy, homeopathy and body work. She empowers her students to learn and be responsible for the health of their own horses as well. Horsemanship and Health has become the foundation of Mary's teaching program, and all students have a solid base in natural horsemanship before moving on to jumping, dressage and competition.
